Despite the fact that production of the twenty cent piece was halted in mid-1876, proof versions continued to be struck for collectors in the following two years. The 1877 Proof Twenty Cent Piece (Buy on eBay) had a mintage of 510 pieces, indicating less than stellar demand for the issue.
Although the survival rate for the proof striking is high, the relatively limited mintage makes the issue not all that easy to come by. Examples displaying cameo contrast are very scare and deep cameo examples are extremely rare, perhaps somewhat surprisingly as both obverse and reverse dies did not see much use.
