The 1878 Proof Twenty Cent Piece (Buy on eBay) represented the final coin issued for the denomination, which was abolished by the Act of May 2, 1878. The mintage for the issue was 600 pieces, up slightly from the previous year, perhaps in anticipation of the discontinuance of the denomination.
Since the issue was struck for collectors, most of the original mintage is likely still in existence. Compared to the previous year, there are a few more cameo pieces known to exist, although full deep cameos remain extremely rare.
